WHAT IS A TITHE? The word means, a tenth, in the applied sense it means a tenth of your increase.
TITHING IS FIRST MENTIONED IN GENESIS 14:18
Genesis 14:18-20And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
[19] And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth.[20] And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Abram gave Melchizedek tithes 430 years before it became a law. Tithing started in the dispensation of promise with the faith of Abraham.The reason we pay tithes today are because God has commanded us to and because we love Him. This is the reason Abraham paid tithes. Abraham paid tithes to the Highest Priest of that day. This is also true in the law, when it was paid to the Levites. Jesus is our High Priest today.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
